Reached my goal of getting my girl’s head into BodyPaint BUT it’s been 3 weeks since I first saw the tutorial so had to scrub through all over again. That means, no real paint done :(
Decided to relay the uvs from scratch. Really didn’t like the first go around. And found out RoadKill is for Windows, no Mac. Wha???
Been in front of the computer for about 6 hours straight now. My legs have lost feeling.
The RoadKill plug in is not laying out the UVs well for me. Need to start tinkering with it. In the mean time laid out the UVs by hand, fixed some of the stretching from before. Not happy completely but at least I can export and start painting.
Got a Wacom tablet today. Taking it out for a drive on Nuke and BodyPaint. But has to be tomorrow. About to pass out for some reason.
Hrrrmmmm… stretchy, stretchy. Maybe a beer will help me get through the tweeking. Why didn’t I think to assign the check pattern two hours ago AS I was adjusting the map. Live and learn.
This is Lucca. She is smoosh face loveliness. A friend asked me to help design a tattoo and asked to incorporate her so I pulled some photos. Thought it would be fun to try my hand at playing with black values given she’s a dark colored pup. Always too light or dark tho… Still need A LOT of work but at least I got to spend my lunch staring at this smoosh face.

Been watching tutorials on rotoscoping and Nuke so didn’t spend too much time modeling yesterday. Not to mention Body Paint tutorial was on non stop play for a while. Found a good stopping point in Body Paint and now laying out UVs for my girl so I can export and paint. Also fiddling with Buddy.
Maya’s UV editor is finicky at times. Need to re-project the planer for the back/side of head. The unfold tool is not working so hot now, or I just don’t know what I’m doing. Probably the latter.
Puppeteers performing Walter.
The team from Look Effects did a panel discussion at Gnomon showing some of the VFX shots from the Muppet’s movie and how they were set up. Really incredible. Some of the puppets had 4-5 puppeteers on them. None were CG. Not to mention they needed to composite hundreds of shots. Couldn’t take any photos/vids at the event, oh well. Found this photo on a fellow Tumblr’s site. VFX magic. Bravo.
Started to model my travel buddy, Buddy. He’s been with me for 9 years + counting. Just something to break up watching the Body Paint DVDs all day. Got to figure out how to fix his nostrils so they don’t make a flat piggy nose.
Then I needed a break from trying to fix the piggy nose so I looked up how to make an animated gif. **NEED TO CLICK ON THE PHOTO TO SEE IT IN ACTION** WOOHOO.
Body paint WIP to come :)
